【熊本市西区】霊巌洞

寛永17年（1640年）、細川忠利の招きで肥後に来た宮本武蔵は、洞窟で兵法「五輪書」を記しました。

この洞窟は神秘的な霊場として知られる雲巌禅寺の裏山にあります。

武蔵はこの書を完成させた一週間後に亡くなったと言われ、周囲には荘厳な雰囲気が漂っています。

洞窟内には岩戸観音像が安置され、壁には東陵の書も刻まれています。

また、雲巌禅寺には武蔵が佐々木小次郎と決闘した時の木刀も保存されており、多くの武蔵ファンが訪れます。

【Kumamoto City, Nishi Ward】Reigan Cave

In 1640, during the 17th year of the Kan’ei era, Miyamoto Musashi came to Higo at the invitation of Hosokawa Tadatoshi.

He wrote his martial arts treatise “Go Rin No Sho” in this cave, which is located in the rear mountains of Unkan Zenji, known as a mystical spiritual site.

It is said that Musashi passed away just one week after completing this work, and a solemn atmosphere permeates the surroundings.

Inside the cave, there is a statue of Iwato Kannon, and inscriptions of Tōryō’s writings are carved into the walls.

Additionally, Unkan Zenji preserves the wooden sword that Musashi used during his duel with Sasaki Kojiro, attracting many fans of Musashi.
