【御船町】御船町恐竜博物館

御船町恐竜博物館は、白亜紀後期の地層である御船層群から産出される恐竜化石を探究し、収集・保存し、後世に継承することを使命とした施設です。

御船層群は国内で最も多様な恐竜化石を産出する地層として知られ、その化石は熊本県の「県の石（化石）」にも指定されています。

これらは地域にとってかけがえのない財産であり、地球が私たち人類に残してくれた貴重な宝物です。

博物館では、約850点の資料が展示され、特に世界中から集められた恐竜の「全身骨格」展示が大きな魅力となっています。

中でも「恐竜進化大進行」と呼ばれる19体の恐竜の全身骨格は、迫力満点でまるで今にも動き出しそうな印象を与え、訪れる人々を魅了します。

また、研究活動の一環として「オープンラボ」が公開されており、普段は見ることのできない研究施設や化石クリーニング作業室、収蔵庫などが見学できます。

【Mifune Town】Mifune Town Dinosaur Museum

The Mifune Dinosaur Museum in Mifune Town is dedicated to the exploration, collection, and preservation of dinosaur fossils from the Mifune Formation, a Late Cretaceous stratum known for yielding the most diverse dinosaur fossils in Japan.

These fossils, which are designated as Kumamoto Prefecture’s “fossil stone,” are invaluable treasures for the region and represent a precious gift from the Earth to humanity.

The museum showcases approximately 850 exhibits, including full dinosaur skeletons collected from around the world, which are a major highlight.

Among them, the “Dinosaur Evolution Parade” featuring 19 complete dinosaur skeletons is especially captivating.

The sheer scale and lifelike display of these skeletons make it feel as though they might come to life at any moment, impressing all visitors.

Additionally, the museum offers an “Open Lab” where visitors can view the behind-the-scenes research facilities, fossil cleaning rooms, and storage areas that are usually not accessible to the public.
