【熊本市中央区】こども本の森　熊本

『こども本の森 熊本』は、世界的建築家・安藤忠雄さんが熊本県に寄贈した図書館です。

豊かな自然環境の中で、子どもたちが自由に読書を楽しむことができ、未来を担う子どもたちが様々な本と出会い、感性や創造力を育むことを願って作られました。

安藤さんの思いは、熊本地震からの復興を応援する気持ちも込められています。

図書館の設計には、床から天井まで壁一面を埋め尽くす本棚や、熊本県産木材で組まれた格子天井など、建築美も見どころです。

また、「くまモンあのね」コーナーでは、子どもたちがくまモンへの手紙を書くこともできます。

安藤忠雄さんは、「本からの感動は生きるための力になる」と考え、常識にとらわれない広い視野で物事を考え、勇気をもって行動する力を育んでほしいという願いを込めて、この図書館を作りました。

子どもたちには、熊本から元気に明日の世界へ飛び立ってほしいという思いが込められています。

【Kumamoto City Chūō Ward】Children’s Forest of Books Kumamoto

“Children’s Forest of Books Kumamoto” is a library donated to Kumamoto Prefecture by the world-renowned architect Tadao Ando.

Situated in a rich natural environment, the library provides children with the freedom to enjoy reading and aims to nurture their sensibility and creativity by introducing them to a variety of books.

Ando’s intention behind this project also includes supporting the recovery efforts following the Kumamoto Earthquake.

The architectural beauty of the library features bookshelves that cover an entire wall from floor to ceiling and a lattice ceiling made from wood sourced from Kumamoto Prefecture.

In the “Kumamon Anone” corner, children can even write letters to Kumamon, the beloved Kumamoto mascot.

Tadao Ando believes that “the inspiration from books gives us the strength to live” and hopes to cultivate the ability to think with a broad perspective, unconstrained by conventional ideas, and to act with courage.

He hopes that children will experience this inspiration and, from Kumamoto, bravely take flight toward a bright future.
