【熊本市中央区】藤崎八旛宮

藤崎八旛宮（ふじさきはちまんぐう）は、熊本市中央区井川淵町に位置し、熊本の総鎮守として千年以上の歴史を誇る神社です。

承平5年（935年）、朱雀天皇が平将門の乱の平定を祈願し、京都の石清水八幡大神を国家鎮護の神として熊本の地に招聘しました。

これが藤崎八旛宮の始まりで、初めは茶臼山に創建されました。

その後、明治10年の西南戦争で社殿が焼失し、現在の場所に移築されました。

現在、藤崎八旛宮は熊本市街地の北東に位置し、国道3号線に面した大きな鳥居が立っています。

鳥居から続く広大な参道は神社へ一直線に伸び、周囲には立派な木々に囲まれた境内が広がります。

境内内には、鮮やかな朱色で彩られた立派な楼門があり、その美しい景観は訪れる人々を魅了します。

秋には「藤崎八旛宮例大祭」が行われ、壮大な随兵行列や馬追いなどが繰り広げられ、地域の祭りとして賑わいます。

【Kumamoto City Chūō-ku】Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine

Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine is located in Ikawafuchi-cho, Chūō-ku, Kumamoto City, and is the main guardian shrine of Kumamoto with over a thousand years of history.

In the 5th year of the Shōhei era (935), Emperor Suzaku prayed for the suppression of the Taira no Masakado Rebellion and invited the Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine deity from Kyoto to Kumamoto as a guardian god of the nation.

This marked the beginning of Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine, which was originally built on Mount Chausu.

However, after the destruction of the shrine during the Seinan War in 1877, it was relocated to its current location.

Today, Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine is situated in the northeastern part of Kumamoto city, with a large torii gate facing Route 3.

The wide approach leading from the torii stretches directly toward the shrine, surrounded by magnificent trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

Within the shrine grounds, a grand gate painted in vibrant vermilion welcomes visitors.

In the autumn, the “Fujisaki Hachimangu Grand Festival” takes place, featuring a grand procession of warriors and horse races, making it a lively regional celebration.
