Kato Kiyomasa, a famous general who survived the Sengoku period, chose this location and completed this magnificent castle over a period of about seven years. The castle later became the scene of many battles, and sometimes fierce battles. Especially during the Seinan War of 1877, the castle played an important role and witnessed many historical events.
